Artwork by KLAUS ORTMEYER

His love of photography was inherited from his father. Born and raised in Germany, Klaus came to Canada as a young man to reside in Kitchener, Ontario where he met his beautiful wife and friend Ursula.

While working on his career as a tool & die maker Klaus pursued his desire to create visual art using a 35 MM camera. He ultimately graduated to the medium format and the 4 x 5 image, consequently becoming very skilled in the darkroom. With the technology of digital imaging he recognized the potential to push his artistic ability to new limits in a way that was impossible before. Being technically minded, Klaus is not only interested in the art of photography but also in its science and mechanics which has led him to some unique innovations. He recently designed an adaptor for his view camera to take super high resolution digital images while being able to use all the cameras movements. Having matured from just looking to really seeing, many of his images exist because of the emotional response to scenes he encounters which is often reflected in their titles. He is always framing an image in his mind, calling his eyes the “real view finders”. The photography that Klaus produced might have stayed the best kept secret if it was not for his daughter in law who invited him to display some of his art in her café and gift shop. It has been greeted with rave reviews and demand. Klaus has now followed Laila’s Inc. invitation to submit his art to them. Light illuminates, Shadow defines.
